  72. VERSIONS OF MOZART INCLUDED

  74. Within the installation package there are two versions of
  75. MOZART:  version 1, the original program for Windows 3.1
  76. and version 2 for Windows 95 and Windows NT.

  78. If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT, then version 2
  79. will install automatically.  There is no reason to install
  80. version 1, as it will do nothing which version 2 cannot.

  82. If you are running Windows 3.1 or 3.11, then version 1 will
  83. install automatically.  You can run the installation again
  84. if you upgrade to Windows 95 to take advantage of the extra
  85. features of version 2.

  116. 1. DISTRIBUTION FILES

  118. There are two forms in which you may have got this version of
  119. MOZART:
  120.  
  121. A)  You got the evaluation version in the form  a zip file,
  122. with a name like MOZART20.ZIP, from a bulletin board, via
  123. the internet, from CompuServe, or on a CD-ROM.
  124.  
  125. (The zip file names may vary: the two digits in the name
  126. reflect the version.)
  127.  
  128. B)  You have a disk or disks containing one or more files,
  129. including the installation program SETUP.EXE and a file
  130. READ1ST.TXT
  131.

  133. 2. UNZIPPING
  134.  
  135. If you found MOZART in form (A),  and have not yet unzipped the
  136. file, then you have to do this first.   Unzip the ZIP file into a
  137. temporary directory.  This is done using the utility PKUNZIP.EXE
  138. (or equivalent) which you should find on internet, CompuServe, or
  139. wherever you found the MOZART ZIP file.

  142. 3. INSTALLATION FILES

  144. Having unzipped the file, or having found MOZART in form (B)
  145. above, you will see a file setup.exe which installs MOZART.
  146. The file readme.1st contains useful information for installing.
  147. (It is one of the files containing this information and you may
  148. be reading it now!)
  149.  
  150. IMPORTANT NOTE: If these installation files are put on your hard
  151. disk, they must be put in a (temporary) directory which must NOT
  152. be the directory you are about to install MOZART into.

  155. 4. INSTALLING MOZART
  156.  
  157. Installation is done by running the program setup.exe supplied
  158. in the set of MOZART installation files.
  159.  
  160. If your installation files (including setup.exe) are on a floppy
  161. disk in drive a:
  162.  
  163.   If you have the Windows 95 interface, use the usual software
  164.   installation procedure in the Control panel, or use "Run" on
  165.   the Start Menu to run setup.exe.
  166.  
  167.   If you have the old style windows interface (eg with Windows
  168.   3.1 or NT 3.51), and are installing from drive a, then:
  169.  
  170.         Go to Windows Program Manager.
  171.         Click on the "Run..." item on its "File" menu.
  172.         In the command box type

  174.                     a:\setup
  175.  
  176.         Click on Ok or press Enter.
  177.  
  178.    Otherwise if you have put the MOZART installation files into
  179.    a temporary directory, c:\tmp say, then do the same but with
  180.    the command c:\tmp\setup.

  182. The setup program now installs MOZART for you.
  183.  
  184. It asks a few questions including: where do you want MOZART
  185. installed?   It suggests a directory.  You may install it
  186. anywhere on your hard disk but it is best to be in a new
  187. directory.   The setup program creates the directory for
  188. you if it doesn't exist.
  189.  
  190. MOZART setup installs a number of utility DLL files which
  191. are commonly used by many programs.  Depending on your
  192. system configuration, it puts these in your Common Program
  193. Files, Windows, or Windows System directory.  If you already
  194. have a newer version of any of these files than the one
  195. supplied with MOZART, the installation will pause to ask you
  196. if you really want to install an older version. The correct
  197. answer is usually "No".  (If you do want to install older
  198. versions, then exit from the setup program and back up your
  199. originals first - MOZART should work with newer versions;
  200. other applications may not work with older ones.)
  201.  
  202. The common DLLs installed by MOZART setup are listed under
  203. the heading "Files installed" in the file README.TXT.
  204.  
  205. MOZART SETUP also installs a number of sample tunes in a
  206. separate directory.  These files have the extension .mz
  207. and the installation registers these as belonging to MOZART
  208. so that you can open them by clicking on them in the Windows
  209. 95 Explorer or the Windows NT Program Manager.

  211. A number of icons will appear in a collection on the Windows 95
  212. Start Menu or a Program Manager Group entitled "Mozart" or
  213. "Mozart32".  These include MOZART itself, an icon for direct
  214. access to the on-line help, and companion information file
  215. README.TXT.

  217. In the Evaluation Copy icons are installed to give you direct
  218. access to the order forms, which are in Windows WRITE format
  219. and readable also by WORDPAD and WORD.
